Dow-Davison diaries, 1848-1890.

Diaries and journals. As a civil engineer, Davison was also fascinated with the plat maps and city surveys of Sebastian Pintado, the last colonial surveyor for Pensacola, and made a study of Pintado's works. In combination, these diaries cover the pre-Civil War days when Pensacola was struggling to revive its status as a major shipping and ship-building center and the post-war period in which it suffered hard times. The Civil War is not covered in these diaries. The Warren Q. Dow diaries consist of 4 volumes, dating from 1848-1850, 1854, 1855, 1857. The William Henry Davison diaries are 10 small volumes, 1852, 1855, 1868, 1870, 1871, 1872, 1873, 1874, and 1876 (2 vols.), 1 loose-leaf notebook diary, 1886, 1 large ledger style diary, 1890, and 1 small survey book, 1876.
